![]() With Staxel, despite sharing the same visual style as Minecraft you’re really locked into the farming theme, which makes it feel more limited than it actually is and actually makes me wonder why they decided to go with the same aesthetic as Minecraft. One of the biggest strengths of Minecraft is the ability to create whatever your mind imagines whether its fantasy, contemporary, sci-fi or anything in between. But of course Staxel is not Minecraft and the focus on farming does give it a bit more focus that Mojang’s game which is both nice and frustrating at the same time. This both works in the game’s favor and against as my first few moments with the game I was definitely trying to control my character like I would in Minecraft which isn’t too far off from how Staxel controls but still has some fundamental differences, namely to control responsiveness. If you have ever played a ‘block simulation’ game like Minecraft before you will immediately feel at home with Staxel, as the game both resembles its inspiration aesthetically and in core gameplay. It’s a fun spin on a genre that has ballooned in size over the past few years but is taxing care of blocky cows and chickens enough to help Staxel stand out from the crowd? Read on to find out! What do you get when you combine a few pinches of Minecraft with a couple of dashes of Harvest Moon? You get Staxel, a game that is both part of the larger crafting-adventure genre but with a heavy emphasis on farming and activities relating to the care of a farm.
